Vel·peau \vel-pō\ Alfred–Armand–Louis–Marie (1795–1867), French surgeon. Velpeau was the leading French surgeon in the first half of the 19th century. In 1839 he introduced a bandage designed to support the arm in dislocation or fracture of the clavicle.
